August Features Blueberries and Gigglefeet

August 01, 2017

Join us in downtown Ketchikan on Friday, August 4th through Sunday August 6th for our 42nd annual Blueberry Arts Festival. This celebration of the Southeast Alaskan blueberry offers fun and entertainment for all, along with the famous Gigglefeet Dance Festival. Gigglefeet allows both visiting and local dancers the opportunity to perform a variety of traditional and contemporary dance. The Main Street Gallery features a curated exhibit, local artists will exhibit from booths, local bands will perform, and vendors galore will offer a variety of eats, along with the ever-popular blueberry crepes.

The Blueberry Pet and Doll Parade will kick off the festival, and this year’s events will feature a poetry slam, a Blueberry Beard & Mustache contest, a slug race, fun run races, and a blueberry pie-eating contest. Thomas Basin will be the site for the newest festival event - the Handmade Blueberry Boat Race. Contestants are encouraged to create people-powered rafts and compete for prizes of Fastest, Most Creative, and Most Likely to Sink. There will be a free shuttle running from the mall to the festival on Saturday, August 5th, and will provide general and handicap-accessible transportation for all.
